| Study: Chiropractic Does Not Increase Risk of Stroke |

A new study finds there is no evidence of excess risk of stroke following chiropractic spinal manipulation, according to a February 2008 report in the journal Spine. In the study, researchers noted that patients are no more likely to suffer a stroke following chiropractic treatment than they would after visiting their family doctor’s office. more

The Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG), the agency responsible for identifying and reporting inefficiency in Medicare, Medicaid and other related HHS programs, announced in its 2008 Work Plan that it would again seek records from doctors of chiropractic as a follow-up to its 2005 report on chiropractic documentation. more

New Policy Goes Into Effect Jan. 1
Despite fervent opposition by the ACA and doctors of chiropractic nationwide, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has finalized a proposed rule that will eliminate patient reimbursement for X-rays referred by a doctor of chiropractic and ordered by a radiologist or other non-treating physician. ACA has vowed to continue to fight the new policy, which is scheduled to go into effect Jan. 1, 2008. more

| Congress Halts Select Medicare Payment Cuts; DCs to Experience Small Reductions |

| (Arlington, VA) Congress, in one of its final acts of the session, passed legislation that temporarily halts a 10 percent across-the-board cut to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS). Instead, the bill will provide for a slight overall increase of 0.5 percent. more |
